MICHAEL GOARD is an artist whose works stem from his appreciation of the imagery and enigmatic beauty of the evolving western world.  His paintings are evocative of the pictographs and environments of Mesoamerican cultures from which he draws creative inspiration.  Focusing on rhythm, balance and color to achieve a dynamic equalibrium is what Michael finds interesting and challenging about the creative process.

Temples, idols, environmental and architectural forms are rendered in a pictographic and impressionistic manner.  Charged with the duality of 'primitive' and sophisticated elements, the images reconcile the ancient with the modern and explore our inextricable link to history through universal symbols and archetypes.

Educated at California State University, Stanislaus (1974-79), his fine art degree includes study at L'Academia d'Belle Arte in Florence, Italy as well as the C.S.C.U. International Program.  Travel in and study of Mexico, the Yucatan and the Americas provide continued  knowledge and inspiration.  In his own kind of archeological quest,

Michael searches out the ancient forms, architecture and domestic crafts of people who, although some are long vanished, maintain a power and vigor.

Michael is available at his studio/showroom in the heart of San Francisco.   Current projects include lapidary, jewelry design and sculpture .
